Hong Kong Children's English Book Read-aloud Contest

Do children like to read? Many parents are aware of the benefits of reading aloud.
Children can learn to read picture books, express and articulate completely,  through the English book read-aloud contest,. Bring on your confident side!

Tips:
This competition is mainly based on children's participation and emotional expression when reading aloud. Young contestants may not be able to fully recognize and read the text, hence parents can edit the video in order to complete the work.

Registration fee: HKD 320 (including medals and certificates)

Competition rules:  

  • Contestants must choose one of the designated books that we provided

  • Contestants must read-aloud the full content of the picture book, and the content shall not be changed without any authorization

  • Work must be submitted in video format

  • Contestants must be clearly displayed in the video. The picture book can be shown in the video, and contestants do not need to recite

  • The video can be edited and post-production

  • Each contestant can only submit their work once, and the work cannot be modified after submission

Short film specifications:

  • Each entrant can only submit one short video for the competition
  • The length of the video is less than 5 minutes (must be less than 500MB)
  • Movies must be in AVI, MPEG, MOV, WMV or MP4 format
  • The video can be edited, the picture and volume must be clear
  • Parents are advised to use mobile phones to take videos

Scoring Criteria:

Content & Completeness  40%  

Expression of emotion, interpretation & skills  30%  

Pronunciation  20%

Body language, eyes contact, expressions, clothes and props, etc.  10%

Awards:

  • Gold Award:   Scores over 85 points will be awarded a gold medal, a trophy and a certificate

  • Silver Award:   Scores over 75 points, a silver award, a trophy and a certificate

  • Bronze Award:   Scores over 65 points, a bronze medal, a trophy and a certificate

  • Merit Award:  a certificate of award will be awarded

  • The rest of the contestants will receive a certificate of recognition

Results announced:

 Result will be announced on our website and Facebook within one week, and the relevant trophies and certificates will be delivered by SF Express within one month after the announcement of the result.

Other conditions:

* All registration fees are non-refundable and non-transferable
* Late submission of registration forms and works will not be accepted
* All entries must be originally created by the participant, and no plagiarism or ghostwriting is allowed
* Entries must not contain obscene, violent, pornographic, slanderous, unhealthy, insulting elements or any controversial and inappropriate content
* Entries cannot contain commercial or political promotion elements
* All trophies and certificates are printed with the names of the contestant in Chinese, please check the relevant information carefully when you fill up our registration form. Once the trophy and certificate are printed, they cannot be modified. All trophies and awards for online competitions will be delivered by SF Express
* Contestants (including parents and teachers of minor participants) must understand and agree to the rules and regulations of this competition. If a contestant violates any competition rules, the organizer and the judging committee have the right to disqualify them from participating in the competition
*Once registered this competition, it means that the contestants have agreed and authorized us to retain and use their works, photos and videos for educational and promotional purposes in our publications, website and social media sites; the contestants have also agreed and authorized us publishing and announcing the names and relevant information of the winners
* We do not have an appeal system, and the results of this competition is subject to the evaluation of professional judges
* The organizer reserves the right of final interpretation of the general rules and regulations of this competition. If there is any dispute about this event, we reserve the right of final decision, and no objection is accepted

  Notice of Collection of Personal Data and Privacy Policy

* The Association collects, stores and uses personal data in a legal and fair manner. Such data will only be used for the Association's business operations and other related activities.

* The Association will try to keep the latest and correct customer personal information.

* Personal information will be kept confidential. The Association will respect the privacy of its customers and will never disclose any information to unauthorized persons.
* All on-site competitions will be recorded by the Association through photographs or videos. The photos and videos obtained may be made public for publicity and promotion purposes.

* Notice on Collection of Personal Data Personal data is provided voluntarily by the contestants or their guardians. Each contestant or their guardian agrees that the personal data provided may be used for promotion and related services. The data will also be used by relevant personnel to process the entries, contact and related publicity purposes.
* Entrants have the right to access and correct their personal data in accordance with Sections 18 and 22 of the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance and Principle 6 of Schedule 1. The right of access includes the right to request a copy of the personal data provided by them in the Student Entry Form for this Competition. A fee may be charged for complying with a data access request.
